چکیده

Resolvable designs with two blocks per replicate are studied from an optimality perspective. Because in practice the number of replicates is typically less than the number of treatments, arguments can be based on the dual of the information matrix, and consequently in terms of block concurrences. Equalizing block concurrences for given block sizes is often, but not always, the best strategy. Sufficient conditions are established for various strong optimalities, and a detailed study of E-optimality offered, including a characterization of the E-optimal class. Optimal designs are found to correspond to balanced arrays and an affine-like generalization.

Use of Resolvable Designs in Field and on Farm Experiments

1. Introduction Resolvable designs, though introduced in the combinatorial context, have found their utility in field experiments. The concept of resolvability is due to Bose (1942) who defined this for a balanced incomplete block (BIB) design. A BIB design is an arrangement of v treatments into b blocks such that each block contains k (< v) distinct treatments, each treatment appears in r bloc...

Class-Uniformly Resolvable Group Divisible Structures I: Resolvable Group Divisible Designs

We consider Class-Uniformly Resolvable Group Divisible Designs (CURGDD), which are resolvable group divisible designs in which each of the resolution classes has the same number of blocks of each size. We derive the fully general necessary conditions including a number of extremal bounds. We present some general constructions including a novel construction for shrinking the index of a master de...

A family of resolvable regular graph designs

A regular graph design RGD(v; k; r) is a design on v points with blocks of size k and constant replication number r, such that any two points belong to either 1 or 1 +1 common blocks, for some constant 1. We investigate resolvable regular graph designs with block size 4. In particular we determine the spectrum of such designs for v 16.

A new look at an old construction: Constructing (simple) 3-designs from resolvable 2-designs

In 1963, Shrikhande and Raghavarao [5] published a recursive construction for designs that starts with a resolvable design (the “master design”) and then uses a second design (“the indexing design”) to take certain unions of blocks in each parallel class of the master design. Several variations of this construction have been studied by different authors. We revisit this construction, concentrat...

Resolvable Modified Group Divisible Designs with Block Size Three

A resolvable modified group divisible design (RMGDD) is an MGDD whose blocks can be partitioned into parallel classes. In this article, we investigate the existence of RMGDDs with block size three and show that the necessary conditions are also sufficient with two exceptions. # 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
